GETTING TO KNOW ARTING

Where modern art is more
than just passion.

About My work:

My work explores abstract expressionism as a pathway to spiritual search, where conveying something genuine emerges from a journey of inner questioning between thought and feeling.

In the series Silent and Meditation, I discovered one of my most profound aesthetic experiences, working on the rectangular plane through acrylic, mixed media, using reliefs and the yuxtaposition  of complementary colors, thanks to this technique the Diploma of Honor was awarded for two consecutive years in 2003 and 2004.

I often identify with the New York School of free art, embracing varied colors and techniques to cultivate a universal sense of joy and hope though simultaneous contrast, and expressive tones as well across my different modes of creation.

Currently, my inspiration flows from landscapes, sunrises, and sunsets, seabed & music where I incorporate elements of nature and homogeneous texture across diverse mediums. My creative process is deeply tied to a spiritual connection between health and meditation unfolding as a therapeutic journey of peace, harmony, and emotional depth.

My Story

MY  JOURNEY

Passionate about Art since 1985

                                               BIOGRAPHY

Dorisa Camps is a citizen of the world, born in Santa Clara, Cuba. By the age of 15, she was already immersed in the arts of drawing, geometric abstraction, and ceramics. A self-taught creator, she went on to develop her skills as a textile designer.

In 1985, she began her formal artistic journey at the School of Art & Crafts Fernando Aguado y Rico. Her father, a shoe designer, and her mother, a businesswoman, had envisioned a different career path for her, but Dorisa was determined to follow her passion for the arts. Despite challenges, she returned to the world of creation with a vibrant universe of colors, gestural brushstrokes, and bold palette-knife work. Her approach as a visual artist seeks a symbiosis between emotion and reality. Through mixed media including acrylic and oil on canvas, lithography, ink, airbrushing, gouache, and textured techniques, she captures the profound connection between humanity and nature.

In the spring of 1988, she took her first steps into international projects, working with CEDEM at the University Center of Havana in partnership with the UNFPA, under the direction of Eramis Bueno and Ybelise Gonzalez. By 1990, she had joined the Office of the Historian of Old Havana, contributing to the restoration and conservation of the city’s rich architectural legacy while mastering diverse artistic techniques. Three years later, she opened her first exhibition at the Havana Cathedral, where she also established her workshop. She continued to study at the Graphic Art Workshop, learning techniques such as linocut, woodcut, lithography, and serigraphy under the guidance of artists like Julio Peña and Luis Lamothe.

In December 1995, Dorisa moved to France, where she collaborated with the YOKUFRAN Cultural Association at the Alternative Space in Paris. She later settled in the south of France, opening her atelier on Rue de L’Avenir in Toulouse, where she hosted a series of major exhibitions.

Today, Dorisa continues to expand her artistic presence across the globe, working in Chicago, Spain (Piles), France, Santa Monica (Los Angeles), Florida, and New York. Inspired by landscapes and sunrises, she often incorporates reliefs and hydrographic elements into her art. Her pictorial language is imbued with a sense of healing inviting meditation, peace, and spiritual harmony while serving as a therapeutic journey of deep emotional expression.
